Heroes Without A Cape

Daddy is home! My brother peeped through the window and he knew dad would get something when he returned from work.

We were so happy that our father came with a surprise and dad had a twinkle in his eye when he returned home; a place where his heart is.

He got a barbie for me and my sister and a cricket set for my twin brothers

The little me kept calling the doll ‘Balbee’

My dad smiled and corrected me patiently until I pronounced it properly.

As we played, he watched us with a smile and looked at my mother.

My mother said its dinner time and served us food.

The curry was very tasty and we wanted more of it.

We had a good meal and then I saw my mother just eat from the leftover as she had cooked limited.

Now when I look back, I understand that my dad smiled with contentment and kept his worries aside.

From the time I was a kid until today, I admire him and the way he tackles every situation without giving up.

My mother on another hand, sacrificed her happiness to ensure we are happy. No one could tell that they are sacrificing or they are making adjustments because they were happy doing it without having any expectations from us.

We have seen ups and downs but our parents have never neglected our needs.

But as we know, we are humans and we are not perfect. Our parents tried to make everything perfect in every possible way they could.

Yes, they have made a few mistakes but life doesn’t come with a clause or with a trailer.

Life is a journey with a rear view and what lies ahead is a surprise with every step taken in the present.

It’s obvious, that if our parents knew what mistakes they are going to make they would never make one. These situations motivated them to be the best parent.

As we grew up, we realized the decisions they made were the best at that time.

Our parents never gave up on us, they trusted us.

Time Flies, today I look at my father and his twinkling eyes are tired and I see his hands shaking. He still manages to do his chores thinking he would cause trouble.

My mother still cooks for us and would worry when we fall ill or when we are away.

I remember, once my mother asked me. ’When should I call you? I told her, ‘Anytime, is fine.

She asked me ‘What if you are busy?’ I smiled and told her,’ I like it this way, you don’t have to think to call your daughter and if I am in a meeting I would answer and let you know that.'

Our parents offered us undivided attention and loved us without having any expectations.

We somehow feel it was their responsibility. The truth is no, they could have chosen an easier path and enjoyed a little more. They didn’t because they wanted to secure our future.

Time has reversed and today perhaps they need a little help from us at times, to which we make them feel guilty by expressing that we offered our help fixing the mobile or when she would ask us to run an errand for her.

I believe every parent has a dream, to give their child a future better than what they had during their childhood.

And it should be our dream to give them a better future.

Guess what, this is easier because they would expect nothing but love and affection.

That makes them Happy.

My parents are True Heroes with an Invisible cape. I am sure you will be able to see the cape soon. If you haven’t seen it yet, you will- once you are a Parent.
